Unprecedented Levels of Burnout, Stress & Strain Among Existing Educators

  • According to a recent NEA survey, over 90% of members report they are experiencing burnout with nearly 70% reporting it as a "severe" problem.
  • Between February 2020 - May 2022, it was estimated that over 300,000 public school teachers and other staff quit due to burnout.  As of early 2023, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a net loss of nearly 600,000 educational staff nationwide demonstrating a similar rend among private/other schools.
  • An estimated 55% of existing educators report they are "thinking of leaving the profession".
  • More than 80% of educational professionals have seen a notable increase in the number of peers leaving since 2020 with more than 3 of every 4 having to increase workloads to fill-in for missing staff members.
  • Journal of Drug Education reports teachers are increasingly turning to substances to deal with stress as self-reported survey results indicate higher rates of alcohol, amphetamine, and tranquilizer use.

Teacher Retention, New Hires & Retirement Concerns

  • The number of new hires for existing openings has fallen well below the replacement rate; for the 2021-22 school year there were only 0.59 new hires for every open position . . . falling seriously below the replacement rate!
  • 44% of public schools report teaching vacancies with half due to resignations.  The cost to hire and train a new teacher now ranges from $9,000 in rural areas up to $21,000 in cities.
  • Applications to teacher training programs are now lower than ever with the 2021-2022 far below those in the prior five years.
  • 23% of new teachers leave the profession within the first three years and 32% within five years.  The trend isn't limited to teachers; administration resignations and retirements have nearly tripled from an average of 2% to over 7% between 2010 and 2022.
  • Job satisfaction among teachers is at the lowest rate in nearly 25 years

Online Self-Paced

Our online self-paced courses are similar to online fixed-date courses, but are designed to give you a six-month period from time of enrollment to complete all assignments. Your instructor will provide feedback via written responses on your assignments and exams. Grades are based on completed projects, assignments and exams.

How is the self-paced course structured? Like fixed-date courses, online self-paced courses are asynchronous meaning that you can work on your assignments anytime; the difference being there are no assigned due dates in self-paced courses. The content is divided into learning modules. Each module will cover one or more topics. Within each of the learning modules, you can expect the following components:

  • Module introduction that outlines what you can expect to learn in the module.
  • Required readings (textbook, articles, journals, websites, etc.) and presentations (audio and/or video).
  • Assignments (which may include: written assignments, quizzes, blogs, etc.) based on the readings and presentations.
  • Module conclusion to review the topics and what you should have learned.
  • Typically, there is a final project, paper, or exam due in the last module that culminates all of the topics covered in each of the learning modules. You’ll find that the design of the learning modules has a rhythm to help you manage your time in the course.
